One of my favorite cafes and brunch places in the Hongdae / Sangsu area is the beautiful flower and brunch cafe Colline (콜린). The coffeeshop is a little bit off from the busy Hongdae (Hongik University) streets, but you can't miss the small house with the stunning terrace in front of it.
Atmosphere
What i love most about the place is the interior and its atmosphere. The cafe doesn't only sell coffee and brunch, but also flowers! It has the most beautiful flowers everywhere in the shop, and the highlight in my opinion is the small terrace / winter garden with lots of greenery and flowers.
Depending on the season, the small terrace is decorated differently with seasonal flowers and plants. Especially during the warmer months, Colline is a great place to sit and enjoy your coffee.
One time I went to the cafe in winter the terrace was closed for whatever reasons, but even without the terrace the place is absolutely beautiful. The wooden interior, tables, and wall panels give the place a cozy and warm feel. With all the flowers everywhere, it makes you feel like you are somewhere in a small house in the nature, or at least not in the busy Hongik University area.
Apparently, several popular Korean dramas were filmed in the cafe in Hongdae, such as the drama "She was pretty". In case you aren't familiar with Kdramas, that's totally fine, but if a drama has been filmed in a coffee shop its usually a good indicator for a beautiful place.
Brunch options at Colline
While I've been to Colline several times for brunch, there aren't actually that many food options. However, the options they have are pretty good! I usually go for the "Plate Meal" (KRW 13,000) which includes a super tasty omelette with some bacon, french toast, a sausage and some salad. Definitely recommended!
The other available options include a salad, and an avocado omelette which both look really good as well. Again, the options are very limited, but compared to other brunch places the meals are quite affordable and pretty good!
Next to the brunch meals they also have several cakes and desserts at Colline, but unfortunately, I haven't tried any yet. Seems like I need to go back soon and try their desserts!
Coffee
The coffee at Colline is pretty good. Wouldn't say its taste is mind blowing, but it doesn't disappoint. I like that they decorate the hot drinks with some coffee art, and that you get your coffee and meals on a wooden tray. It's all about the small details, isn't it?
They have several options from normal Americano up to Vienna Coffee, and next to that also many non-coffee drinks for those coffee haters out there (can't relate :P). I'm sure everyone would find something they like.
The prices are quite up there with a hot americano for KRW 5,500, and a Cafe Latte for KRW 6,300. I guess one pays for the location / beautiful interior.
What are you waiting for?
I absolutely love cafe Colline and it's one of my favorite brunch places in Hongdae. It's especially great for meeting girl friends for brunch and coffee, or for a coffee date with your partner.
While the coffee and food are good, I personally think it's more about the interior and the vibe of the cafe. If you're only looking for a quick and inexpensive coffee, you might want to check out other places in the Hongdae area, but if you want to spend some relaxing time in a beautiful coffee shop, Colline is an excellent choice!
